Blue Sky and Clouds Over Rural Medinipur, West Bengal

Image
There is a particular kind of beauty in rural Bengal that does not always announce itself. It can appear in an ordinary stretch of sky, in the movement of a cloud, in the uneven silhouette of trees, or in the quiet landscape surrounding a village. These are scenes that we often see as part of everyday life, yet when we pause and look carefully, they can reveal a character of their own. I captured this photograph in my rural village in Medinipur, West Bengal , where the landscape is closely connected with the changing sky. Away from the dense buildings and busy roads of the city, the horizon feels more open here. Trees rise naturally around the village, leaving large sections of sky visible above them. That openness was what drew my attention to this particular view. The first thing that stands out in the photograph is the deep blue sky . Against it, a few bright white clouds appear almost suspended in the open space. Their soft, irregular shapes create a gentle contrast with the clea...

A Colourful Moment at Yogodyan, Ramakrishna Math | Photographing Birds

Image
During a visit to Yogodyan, Ramakrishna Math , I came across these colourful birds and stopped to take a photograph. The bright colours immediately caught my attention. Against the green metal enclosure, the birds stood out strongly, especially the yellow, orange and red shades visible in their feathers. It was one of those small moments that can easily be missed when walking through a peaceful place. I took this photograph because the colours and contrast made the scene interesting to me. A Splash of Colour at Yogodyan The first thing I noticed was the difference between the birds and their surroundings. The enclosure is mostly green, while the birds have much brighter colours. The combination makes them particularly noticeable in the photograph. One of the birds has a striking mixture of yellow and orange, with a deeper red-orange area around its head and body. Another colourful bird can also be seen nearby. I liked the way the birds' natural colours remained the main focus even ...

Dark Clouds Over Kolkata: A Changing Evening Sky

Image
The sky has been quite cloudy in Kolkata this week, and today I noticed something that made me stop and look up. During the late afternoon, the clouds became much darker and thicker than they had been earlier. The sky was covered with layers of grey clouds, with only small areas of lighter sky visible between them. I liked the way the clouds were changing the entire mood of the evening, so I took out my phone and captured this photograph. I took this photograph in Kolkata today, around 5 PM . A Sky That Caught My Attention What first caught my attention was the colour of the sky. It wasn't simply a grey, overcast sky. There were many different shades within the clouds. Some areas were quite dark, while others were lighter and appeared almost soft against the background. The clouds also had different shapes and textures. Some looked thick and heavy, while others seemed to spread more gently across the sky. I found myself looking at the photograph afterwards and noticing details that...

The Hidden Bird Nests of a Palmyra Palm | A Quiet Scene of Nature

Image
Sometimes a photograph becomes interesting because of something that we do not notice immediately. When I first look at this photograph, the tall Palmyra palm and the clear blue sky naturally catch my attention. The large fan-shaped leaves spread across the top of the tree and create an attractive natural pattern against the sky. But looking more closely reveals something even more interesting. Several bird nests are hanging among the leaves of the palm. These nests are scattered around the crown of the tree, tucked between the green leaves and the older, dried foliage. They are easy to miss when looking at the photograph from a distance, but once noticed, they completely change the character of the scene. This is no longer just a photograph of a palm tree. It is also a small glimpse into the relationship between a tree and the birds that use it as a place to live and build their nests. A Palmyra Palm Reaching Into the Sky The Palmyra palm dominates the photograph. Its tall tru...

I Almost Missed This: A Monkey Silhouette Above the Village Fields

Image
I Almost Missed This: A Monkey Silhouette Above the Village Fields I almost walked past this scene. There was nothing dramatic happening in the village fields that afternoon. The sky was calm, the branches were spread across the frame, and the surroundings felt completely ordinary. Then I noticed a monkey sitting on one of the branches . From a distance, it appeared almost like a dark shape drawn against the sky. The monkey's silhouette was clear, while the thin branches and leaves created a delicate pattern around it. That small moment was enough to make me stop and take a photograph. I captured this scene in my rural village in Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal , during the afternoon.  The Moment I Noticed the Monkey The monkey wasn't doing anything extraordinary. It was simply sitting on a branch. But sometimes an ordinary moment can become interesting when you see it from the right angle. What caught my attention was the way the monkey appeared against the open sky. Instead of...

One Orange Petal in a Sea of Red: The Flower That Made Me Stop

Image
One Orange Petal in a Sea of Red: The Flower That Made Me Stop At first, this looked like an ordinary red flower. Then I noticed something unusual. One of its petals was orange. Surrounded by bright red petals, that single orange petal immediately stood out to me. It was such a small difference, but it completely changed the way I saw the flower. I was in a garden in Kolkata on the morning of 28 August 2026 when I noticed it. I stopped, looked at the flower more carefully, and decided to capture the moment. The photograph is completely unedited . The One Petal I Couldn't Ignore Most of the flower was dominated by an intense red colour. But on the left side was a single pale-orange petal . It looked almost as if a different flower had somehow found its way into the middle of the red one. That contrast was what made me take the photograph. If the entire flower had been red, I might have simply walked past it. But that one different petal made me curious. Why Did One Pet...

When the Night Comes Alive: Ferris Wheel at Karunamoyee Mela

Image
When the Night Comes Alive: A Colorful Ferris Wheel at Karunamoyee Mela Ground There are some photographs you take because you planned the shot. And then there are photographs that simply make you stop . This was one of those moments. On the evening of 25 August , I was at the Karunamoyee Mela Ground, Kolkata  when I came across this brightly lit Ferris wheel against the dark night sky. The lights were changing across the wheel in different colours—green, pink, blue, purple and orange—making it almost impossible to ignore. I took out my phone and captured the scene. The photograph is completely unedited . A Ferris Wheel That Demanded Attention During the day, a Ferris wheel can look like a large metal structure. At night, everything changes. Once the lights came on, the wheel became the centre of attention. The colourful patterns stood out strongly against the almost completely dark sky. That contrast was the first thing that caught my eye. There was something almost ma...

When the Ganga Turns Blue: An Evening at Ahiritola Ghat

Image
When the Ganga Turns Blue: An Evening at Ahiritola Ghat What makes you stop and take a photograph? For me, it was the moment when the Ganga, the evening sky and their reflections seemed to become one scene . I was at Ahiritola Ghat in Kolkata , beside the Ganga, around 6 PM . I wasn't looking for a complicated composition. I simply looked toward the river and noticed how different everything appeared as the evening light changed. The sky had taken on a deep blue tone. The river stretched across the foreground, while lights on the other side appeared as small bright points with reflections on the water. I took out my Realme 10 Pro 5G and captured the moment. And I left the photograph completely unedited . The Moment I Decided to Take the Photo I think some photographs work because they make you pause. This was one of those moments. I was at the ghat when my attention moved toward the river. The sky was becoming darker, but there was still enough light near the horizon to ...

How I Captured an Aesthetic Rural Sunset in Paschim Medinipur With a Realme 10 Pro 5G

Image
How I Captured an Aesthetic Rural Sunset in Paschim Medinipur With a Realme 10 Pro 5G Some of my favourite photographs are not taken at famous destinations. They happen in places that are already part of everyday life. I captured this photograph in the fields of my rural village in Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal , at around 3:30 PM . I was in the fields when I noticed the combination of the yellowish sun, clouds, trees and surrounding landscape. I was carrying my Realme 10 Pro 5G , so I decided to photograph the scene. The photograph was not planned in advance. I simply noticed that the landscape had an aesthetic appearance at that particular moment and wanted to preserve it. The Photograph The photograph shows a rural landscape with several elements working together. The yellowish sun is one of the main visual features. Around it, clouds add texture to the sky, while trees and bamboo-like vegetation create a natural frame around the landscape. The fields provide the setting for the p...
