How I Captured Kolkata's Evening Sky From City Centre Metro
How I Captured Kolkata's Evening Sky From City Centre Metro
Sometimes a photograph comes from simply looking up at the right moment.
I did not plan a photography session or use a dedicated camera. I simply noticed the view, took out my phone and captured what I was seeing.
The Photograph
The photograph shows the evening atmosphere around Kolkata City Centre Metro, with the sky becoming an important part of the scene.
What caught my attention was the combination of the urban surroundings and the changing evening light. A metro station is normally associated with movement, passengers and daily travel, but for a moment I focused on the visual side of the scene instead.
I photographed the view from the metro station itself.
This is one of the things I enjoy about mobile photography. You can photograph an interesting scene without carrying a large camera or planning the shot in advance.
Camera and Device
I captured this photograph using my Realme 10 Pro 5G.
The photograph was taken at approximately 5 PM on 19 August 2026.
Here are the details I can confirm about the photograph:
- Device: Realme 10 Pro 5G
- Location: Kolkata City Centre Metro
- Time: Around 5 PM
- Date: 19 August 2026
- Shooting location: Metro station
- Editing: No editing was applied
- Subject: Kolkata cityscape and evening sky
I prefer documenting these details because they show the actual circumstances in which the photograph was created.
Why I Took the Photograph
I took the photograph because the scene looked visually interesting at that particular moment.
The sky was changing as the day moved toward evening, while the metro station provided an urban setting around it.
Instead of photographing only the sky, I wanted to capture the relationship between the city and the sky.
That made the photograph feel more connected to the place where I was standing.
Photographing With a Phone
One reason I like mobile photography is that the camera is always available.
I did not have to carry a DSLR or mirrorless camera to photograph this scene. My Realme 10 Pro 5G was enough to capture the moment.
For everyday photography, I think the most important step is often simply noticing something worth photographing.
A phone can be particularly useful for this because you can quickly take a photograph when the light or scene changes.
Why the Location Matters
Kolkata City Centre Metro provided an interesting setting for this photograph.
Metro stations are places where people normally concentrate on travelling from one destination to another. But they can also provide unusual viewpoints of the surrounding city.
For me, this photograph was less about finding a famous landmark and more about noticing an ordinary part of Kolkata at an interesting time of day.
That is something I want to continue exploring through Landscape in Lens—finding photographs in places that people may normally pass without stopping.
No Editing
I did not edit this photograph after taking it.
I kept the image as it was captured on the Realme 10 Pro 5G.
This is important to me because the photograph represents what I actually saw at the metro station rather than a heavily modified version of the scene.
Natural photographs can sometimes be more meaningful because they preserve the atmosphere of the moment.
What I Learned From This Photograph
This photograph taught me a simple lesson: interesting photographs do not always require special locations.
I was simply at a metro station in Kolkata when I noticed the scene.
The experience reminded me to pay attention to changing light and surroundings, even when I am travelling or going about my normal day.
1. Look around before moving on
When travelling, it is easy to focus only on reaching the destination. Taking a moment to look around can reveal unexpected photography opportunities.
2. Use the camera you already have
The Realme 10 Pro 5G was the only camera I needed for this photograph.
3. Include the environment
Instead of treating the sky as an isolated subject, I included the urban environment to give the photograph a stronger sense of place.
4. Photograph real moments
The photograph was not staged. It came from a real moment at Kolkata City Centre Metro.
5. Don't assume every photograph needs editing
I left this image unedited because I was satisfied with the photograph as it was captured.
My Experience
What makes this photograph meaningful to me is its simplicity.
I was not visiting a famous viewpoint specifically to photograph Kolkata. I was at City Centre Metro at around 5 PM, noticed the evening scene and decided to capture it.
That small moment became a photograph.
For me, this is what makes photography enjoyable. A photograph does not always have to document a major event or a famous landmark. It can simply preserve something you noticed during an ordinary day.
Final Thoughts
This photograph of the evening sky around Kolkata City Centre Metro is a reminder that photography opportunities can appear almost anywhere.
I captured it using my Realme 10 Pro 5G at around 5 PM on 19 August 2026, from the metro station, and I did not apply any editing afterward.
The photograph represents what I saw at that particular moment.
I hope to continue documenting more ordinary scenes like this through Landscape in Lens—using photography to record the places, landscapes and moments that catch my attention.
